AZAHAR Foundation

The AZAHAR Foundation is an international organization that promotes cross-cultural communication and non-violent conflict resolution through Yoga and the Arts. Within any population we teach, young leaders are identified and supported with professional training to become positive models of change within their communities. Through the conflict resolution and peace-building techniques of Yoga and the Arts, the escalating cycle of violence in conflict and post-conflict settings can be broken and recovery and rehabilitation can begin.
Yoga Method
Jivamukti Yoga — often called the Wild Child of Yoga for its artistic and activist inspiration — was founded by Sharon Gannon (Tripura Sundari) and David Life (Deva Das) in New York, in 1986, and is defined as a Path to Enlightenment through Compassion towards all beings. The core practice is Asana, supported by elements of 5 tenets: Ahimsa (non-violence), Shastra (scripture), Nada (sound), Bhakti (devotion), Dhyana (meditation). These tenets are based on the classical teachings of Yoga, and illuminated as relevant guidelines for life, on and off the mat. The Jivamukti Yoga method teaches how to improve one’s quality and joy of life by bringing harmony into our relationships.
